'ANNE and WIL....A true love story'
A folklore legend this story became,
of forbidden love, a mother to blame.
Anne and Wil, the young lovers' names,
the Maid of Cefn Ydfa, a legend famed.
Anne, landed gentry, a priveleged childhood,
Wil a young lad, in the spring of manhood.
Loved one another, with passion so pure,
for many a year, only heartache endured.
Anne's life mapped out, from the day she was born,
a landowner rich, a life so forlorn.
Forbade by her mother, to consort with Wil,
kept in the house, with just pen and quill.
Letters she wrote, smuggled by the maid,
Anne later finding, the maid had betrayed.
Locked in her room, for days upon end,
no paper, or ink, no letters to send.
Wil still kept writing, unaware of the deed,
his letters destroyed, without being read.
Anne's last resort, a letter in blood,
a sycamore leaf, her tears became flood.
Both now believing, love unrequited,
Wil left Wales behind, sad, heavy hearted.
Anne later married, a local land owner.
a loveless marriage, would later follow.
Anne became ill, to her death bed was carried,
crying for Wil, the love she'd have married.
Anne's mother messaged, Wil come in haste,
there isn't much time, here is your place.
Anne's husband left her, right then and there,
his reason for marriage, money and fair.
Anne's mother weeping, she was the reason,
her daughter dying, soon to be leaving.
Like a devoted lover, Wil duly arrived,
embracing Anne, praying, God let her survive.
Both whispering softly, "I love you",
Anne gently passed, only true love she knew.
