About
Ceinws Archive includes a mixture of photographs and documents, audio material and short films by Ray and Julia Gunn who live in Esgairgeiliog, Ceinws, four miles north of Machynlleth on the old Corris Road. Julia returned to Esgairgeiliog in 1982 with Ray after living accross the border in England where Ray was posted as a member of the Royal Air Force. Ray came to the Corris area in his teens, moving from a small village in the Cotswolds. Both are now retired.
Since 2011 Julia has been uploading material to the People's Collection Wales website which relates to the history of the area – where her ancestors have lived since the seventeenth century – and also material that tells the story and records the lives of various members of her family. Both Julia and Ray are keen photographers and 1998 Ray appeared on the ‘Homeland ' magazine television programme where he talked about his great passion. He was interviewed about his hobby creating a photographic archive of the village of Ceinws and the surrounding area so that it could be safeguarded for future generations. Subsequently, both produced and published their own book: ‘Esgairgeiliog Ceinws, In Pictures and Words, Past and Present’ (2003).
