Simon Evans

I was born in Cardiff in 1964. Went to Ysgol St.Francis in Barry until 1972 when my family moved to live just outside Llangeitho. Attended Llangeitho Primary until 1975 and then Tregaron Secondary. In 1981 I attended Dyfed College of Art in Carmarthen where I studied Photography, which has been part of my life since I was a small child playing with a Kodak Instamatic. 

Since the '70's, apart from a a year or two in Carmarthen, and a short time back in South Wales, I have always lived in Ceredigion; Llangeitho, Nebo, Penuwch and more recently Llanilar. For most of those years I lived in Penuwch, my children attended Penuwch School and I worked for some time, in the local shop - when there still were still lots of local, village shops! I've worked as various things over the years, painter & decorator, shopkeeper, general labourer, sound engineer, all the time keeping my interest in photography. It was my photographic skills which, some 16 years ago, got me a job at The National Library of Wales where I have worked in Digital Imaging and more recently as an Assistant Curator with the Photographic collection.

I have an extensive collection of my own photographs from the 1970's on, and family photo's going back to the 1920's.
